Scania Vabis L110 Super, 2008
The former school building on Noordzeestraat in the Utrecht Rivierenwijk was rebuilt into a multifunctional district center in 2008 and is used by children, youth and seniors. The Utrecht artist Andre Pielage chose the impressive wide staircase as a site for his artwork. The architecture of the building is so compelling, and grand, that Pielage wanted to make this space insightful through his artwork. He searched for a similar big, binding and recognizable volume, which he found a vintage truck. The artwork thus contributes to the historic atmosphere of the building, but does not compete with it. The truck was constructed in coated steel, coated wood, and other materials. The front lamps, turn signals and tail lights feature LED lighting.
